Meta Ads for Your Retreat: What to Check Before You Spend Money

Recently, someone asked me if I could help them decide whether Meta Ads for their retreat would be a smart investment.

This is a question I often get from my clients.

Disclaimer: I’m not a Meta ads expert, but I’ve used them enough over the years to understand some important fundamentals.

I know this is a question many retreat and wellness leaders ask as they try to increase their sales. And the reality is that if this isn’t done intentionally, it’s often like throwing your money away. Really.

I was also having a conversation with my friend and business partner Marta from Grapefruit Retreats about the same topic and the conversation prompted me to write this.

(BTW, if you’re planning to run a retreat in Italy and need a professional planner to help bring your vision to life, check out what Marta has to offer.)

What to Check Before You Spend Money on Meta Ads for Your Retreat

If you’re looking to promote your retreat or wellness offer… I’d check this first…

Before putting money into ads, the most important thing is making sure the offer is really clear and well-defined in terms of:

  • Who it’s for.
  • What transformation it facilitates.
  • What kind of benefits people can expect.

And so on…

Because advertising isn’t meant to create clarity around your retreat offer.

It just amplifies whatever is already there.

If what’s there isn’t clear or compelling… Then, we have a real problem.

It’s also important to have one clear place where people can fully understand what you offer.

That could be a landing page or sales page on your website (which is my preferred method), or a simple presentation brochure that includes all the important details: the transformation, logistics, a consistent CTA, and language that speaks to different types of buyers, etc.

And yes, it’s okay to use a brochure if you don’t have a website yet. I say this because I’ve sold out retreats—and I’ve had clients sell out retreats—with nothing more than a brochure.

Because at the end of the day, what matters isn’t the container.

It’s the clarity and the structure of the message inside it.

Can Meta Ads Help You Fill Your Retreat?

Unless your ads are targeted to a custom audience, they’re likely to be shown to cold people who have never heard of you before.

And selling a retreat to someone who has just “met” you isn’t going to be that simple.

So what I recommend—and what I encourage my clients to do whenever they have enough time before launching an offer—is this:

Reverse engineer the client journey and create a free or low-ticket event that naturally becomes the step before the retreat.

Something that leaves people inspired, helps them understand the transformation they’re truly looking for, and shows why your retreat is the natural next step.

(If you need support with this, that’s exactly what The Wellness Webinar Blueprint Workshop is designed for).

Then invest your Meta ads budget into promoting that event.

When done well, this approach doesn’t just help you grow your email list.

It helps you position your brand, build trust, and create a much warmer audience before you ever invite someone to book a retreat.

More importantly, you’re no longer asking a complete stranger to book a retreat with someone they’ve only just discovered.

You’re giving them the opportunity to enter your business ecosystem first.

To understand your philosophy.

To experience your teaching.

To build trust in your work.

And in my experience, that’s a much stronger foundation for enrollment than asking cold traffic to book a retreat straight away.

I hope this helps.
